The Great Backyard Bird Count is held each February for four days. The world comes together for the love of birds!! Birding is awe-inspiring. It connects us with a sense of place and gets us outside to explore our neighborhoods and towns. Birds are everywhere, all the time, doing fascinating things!

Come to this event on Saturday, February 18th, and handle binoculars, learn about bird behavior, put together a bird puzzle, flip through a bird book, or build a feeder to take home! Guided bird walks will also be offered.

Who flies south for the winter? Where do they go in the summer? Learn about migration and the role South Dakota plays in the annual migration.

Presented by Jason Nelson, SD GF&P Outdoor Campus - Sioux Falls Outreach Coordinator and Naturalist (and Harrisburg resident!).

Hear how South Dakota’s wetland ecology impacts the continent’s migratory bird population.  Participants may interact with a bird identification display that includes binoculars, ID flash cards, and more! Stop in early at the Harrisburg Community Library to discover a new book.
