NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN That the governing body, sitting as a Review Board of the Municipality of Harrisburg, Lincoln County, South Dakota, will meet at the Liberty School Community Conference Room, 200 E Willow Street, Harrisburg, South Dakota in said taxing jurisdiction on MONDAY, the 20th day of March, 2017, (being the 3rd Monday in March) at 6:00 p.m. for the purpose of reviewing and correcting the assessment of said taxing district for the year, 2017.

 

All persons considering themselves aggrieved by said assessment are required to notify the clerk of the local board no later than March 16, 2017.

RE:          REAPPRAISAL OF CITY OF HARRISBURG

 

Dear Property Owner;

Enclosed are the Preliminary 2017 Assessed value(s) on your property based on the reappraisal of your jurisdiction in 2016.

This was a large undertaking by the Equalization Office and we want to thank you for your cooperation.  Often concerns can be resolved after visiting with an appraiser.  If you would like to schedule an appointment regarding concerns or to review your property data with an appraiser, please call our office at 605-764-2571 no later than January 27, 2017.  Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  There will also be appraisers available to answer any questions with extended hours until 8:00 p.m. during the week of January 23rd through the 26th.

If no changes to your Preliminary values are determined during the above dates, the Preliminary values will become your OFFICIAL 2017 Assessments and notification will be mailed by March 1, 2017.  Any complaint after February will go through the legal appeal process.  (Local Boards—County Boards—Office of Hearing Examiners—Circuit Court)

  • Please remember as the owner of real property in South Dakota, you have the right to ensure your property is being assessed at no more than market value and equitably in relationship to other properties in your area.  Ask yourself, “IF I sold this property, is this the amount I would expect to receive?”

Example:
Home appraised at $150,000 taxable value for City of Harrisburg (Owner Occupied)
School  $150,000/1,000 = 150 x $11.925 ($4.46 + $7.465) = $1,788.75
City  $150,000/1,000 = 150 x $3.797 = $569.55
County  $150,000/1,000 = 150 x $2.306 = $345.90
Total Tax = $2,704.20   ($150,000/1,000 = 150 x $18.028 = $2,704.20)
